Alan Thomas Sworn in as New Commissioner of GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced that Alan Thomas has been sworn in as the Commissioner of the Federal Acquisition Service (FAS).

As an appointee of President Donald J. Trump, Thomas will lead the newly reorganized FAS as the department works to build on past successes, including improved employee, customer and supplier satisfaction and additional tax dollar-saving efficiencies. Thomas will ensure GSA’s acquisition strategies are aligned with the Trump administration’s business and technology initiatives. FAS plays a core role in implementing GSA’s mission of delivering the best value in real estate, acquisition, and technology services to government and the American people.

Thomas comes to this position with more than 20 years of experience in both industry and government. He previously led a small technology company in establishing access to the federal market through Schedule 70, managed profit and loss for a successful Alliant Small Business prime contract holder and used GSA procurement vehicles to acquire professional services while serving as a government program manager. His experience also includes public sector service in the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics at the U.S. Department of Defense; and as a Management Analyst in the Department of the Army.

“Alan’s background in both industry and government gives him a unique and valuable perspective on GSA,” said Tim Horne, GSA’s acting administrator. “Alan’s addition to our leadership team demonstrates our commitment to remaining an organization that attracts the best talent in service to the nation. I am excited to work with him as he implements his vision for continuing our work to modernize and streamline government.”

“I am pleased to join the GSA team that enables our customers to solve some of the most pressing issues faced by our government,” Thomas said. “I look forward to working with the talented staff already onboard at GSA to ensure that we are providing our essential products and services to our partners in government and the American public in the most efficient and effective manner possible.”
