Scope
Protect your agency’s staff, buildings, and property with Credential Service Providers. The federal government has adopted the Kantara Initiative definition of two types of CSPs that can be purchased:
- Full Service – CSPs that offer both Identity Assurance Level and Authentication Assurance Level services.
- Component Service – CSPs that offer an IAL or AAL service.

Features and benefits
Per NIST, credential service providers are “trusted entities that issue or register subscriber authenticators and issue electronic credentials to subscribers.” CSPs, as part of the identity proofing process, collect evidence to reliably identify an applicant, or citizen. Once an applicant’s identity has been established, the CSP issues a credential.

Vendors applying for SIN 541519CSP are vetted by identity, credentialing, and access management subject matter experts to ensure the requirements below are met.
To be considered, the CSP must have:
- A Kantara Initiative certification identifying the CSP as full service or component service.
- For cloud-based providers, hold a FedRAMP Moderate authorization to operate or be “in process.”
- A thoroughly completed credential service provider capabilities template located on idmanagement.gov.
- Relevant project experience narrative.
