U.S. General Services Administration to host community meeting for the Land Port of Entry in Fort Fairfield, Maine

BOSTON – The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) will host a community meeting in Fort Fairfield, Maine, to discuss the new Fort Fairfield Land Port of Entry (LPOE) project.

The public is invited to attend the meeting on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. local time in the cafeteria at the Fort Fairfield Middle High School, 28 High School Drive in Fort Fairfield, Maine.

The intent of the meeting is to gather information from the community and identify shared goals between the federal government and the town of Fort Fairfield. During this meeting, GSA will introduce the project team and provide a project overview. Additionally, there will be an open discussion on the public’s experience with the current port, community and business interests, and concurrent or planned town and regional projects.

The current Fort Fairfield LPOE was constructed in 1933. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

The new facility, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will strengthen supply chains, improve operational capabilities and facility infrastructure, spur economic growth, and bolster the country’s security.

The project will incorporate sustainability features that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, mitigate environmental impact, and simultaneously increase the mission readiness of the federal government by increasing resilience to climate change.

This announcement is part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda in growing the American economy from the bottom up and middle-out – from rebuilding our Nation’s infrastructure, to creating a manufacturing and innovation boom powered by good-paying jobs, to building a clean-energy economy that will combat climate change and make our communities more resilient.
