Personal Property Policy Overview
The federal government owns approximately $1.9 trillion in 2022 in personal property assets. Managing these assets – office supplies to aircraft – is an important responsibility. GSA provides federal agencies with regulations, policies, and guidance on personal property management and disposal.
This includes:
-
Collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on federal personal property;
-
Facilitating federal agency discussions on personal property management through the Interagency Committee on Property Management (ICPM);
-
Providing policies and guidance on personal property management and on special programs such as exchange/sale and foreign gifts; and
-
Providing personal property regulations in the Federal Management Regulation (FMR).
