Requirements
You must be married to an active-duty member of the U.S. Armed Forces or a spouse of a service member who retired or separated from active duty with a 100% service-connected disability rating. You can also qualify if you are the spouse of a service member killed while serving active duty, if you have not remarried.
You must have U.S. citizenship, or be a U.S. non-citizen national (a resident of American Samoa or Swain Island) to apply for positions that are open to the public.

Documentation
When applying as a military spouse, provide the following:
- A copy of your official marriage certificate
- Proof of military status for
- Active-duty spouses — A copy of your spouse’s current active-duty orders or official permanent change of station orders.
- Disabled veteran spouses — A copy of the DD-214 showing honorable discharge, alongside the official VA letter certifying a 100% service-connected disability rating.
- Surviving spouses — The DD-1300 (Report of Casualty) and documentation proving you are the un-remarried widow/widower.
Include an updated federal resume along with your application. Your resume should speak to the duties and specialized experience sections of the job announcement, and should not be longer than two pages.
