GSA and DOL expand Login.gov partnership to increase access, decrease fraud, and support modernization in unemployment insurance
WASHINGTON - The U.S. General Services Administration and the U.S. Department of Labor have launched a major expansion of their partnership, offering all U.S. states the opportunity to use Login.gov to help improve access, decrease fraud, and increase security in the delivery of unemployment insurance benefits. The partnership follows a May announcement by DOL to expand digital identity verification services as it seeks to upgrade and strengthen unemployment insurance systems nationwide.
Through Login.gov, Americans can use one single, secure login to access government benefits and services at over 40 federal and state agencies. At the same time, agencies using Login.gov benefit from enhanced security and strong government-wide anti-fraud controls that help ensure that government benefits are being delivered to eligible recipients, not fraudulent actors. The number of both users and agency customers of Login.gov has grown significantly over the past year.
The GSA-DOL partnership builds on a successful 2022 pilot in Arkansas, where Login.gov has helped over 19,000 Arkansans verify their identities (using secure, privacy-protecting, evidence-based methods) to access unemployment benefits. More recently, Login.gov accelerated a planned integration with the state of Hawaii that has helped thousands impacted by the Maui wildfires access unemployment and other benefits.
“This growing partnership will make it easier for eligible members of the public to receive unemployment benefits when they need them, and protect UI systems from potential fraud,” said Andrew Stettner, Deputy Director for Policy in DOL’s unemployment insurance modernization office. “We are thankful for GSA’s partnership, and particularly for the Login.gov team’s support in moving quickly to help those in need in Hawaii.”
Login.gov allows users to access multiple federal agency benefits. For example, Hawaii residents impacted by the Maui fires are able to use a single Login.gov account not only to access unemployment insurance benefits but also FEMA services from the Department of Homeland Security and disaster assistance loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. This provides disaster victims with seamless, secure, and privacy-preserving digital access to critical services when it matters most.

Login.gov continues to invest in better serving both agencies and users. This year, Login.gov rolled out major new capabilities such as a 24/7 multilingual contact center with phone support, and an in-person identity proofing option available at 18,000 U.S. Postal Service locations, and Login.gov is continuing to expand its capabilities further to provide the public with a simple, secure, equitable, and privacy-protecting solution to access government services.
