202 S. State (Century Bldg) – 16 stories, Holabird/Roche design, 1915. 

208-212 S. State (Thompson Bldg) – 3 stories, Marshall/Fox design, 1920. Non-historic building demolished.

214 S. State – 4 stories, Palmer design, 1887. 

220 S. State (Consumers Bldg) – 21 stories, Mundie/Jensen design, 1913.

On April 16, we began by-hand demolition of the 208-212 S. State St. building (to address safety concerns). The project will complete on September 30, 2023. For this work, we closed the east sidewalk of 202-220 S. State on March 9 and are directing pedestrians to use the sidewalk across the street.

We are preparing an Environmental Impact Statement and conducting the National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 Process to address the future of these buildings. The properties lie adjacent to the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse in the downtown Loop Retail Historic District, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Century (202) and Consumers (220) buildings contribute to the historic district.
