U.S. General Services Administration to host public meeting for the Land Port of Entry in Norton, Vermont

BOSTON – The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) will host a public meeting in Norton, Vermont, to discuss the new Norton Land Port of Entry (LPOE) project.

The public is invited to attend the meeting on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. local time at the Norton Town Office (12 VT-114 East, Norton). The meeting will be conducted in an informal open house format, where project information will be discussed.

The open house format will encourage discussion and information sharing through opportunities for the public to speak one-on-one with GSA representatives. No formal presentation will be provided.

The current Norton port was constructed in 1933, with a truck facility constructed in 1961. Two additional garages were built in 2003. The main building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The intent of the meeting is to gather information from the community and identify shared goals between the Federal Government and the Town of Norton. During this meeting, GSA will introduce the project team and provide a project overview. Additionally, there will be an open discussion on the public’s experience with the current port, town and regional projects, and community and business interests.

The new facility, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will strengthen supply chains, improve operational capabilities and facility infrastructure, spur economic growth, and bolster the country’s security.

The project will incorporate sustainability features that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, mitigate environmental impact, and simultaneously increase the mission readiness of the Federal Government by increasing resilience to climate change.

This announcement is part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda in growing the American economy from the bottom up and middle-out – from rebuilding our Nation’s infrastructure, to creating a manufacturing and innovation boom powered by good-paying jobs, to building a clean-energy economy that will combat climate change and make our communities more resilient.
