How do you verify the customer is using the correct funding year?
You must cite funding that is available for obligation during the fiscal year of bona fide need of the work. We use the supporting information and the Treasury Account Symbol on the RWA to verify the correct funding year is being used. Note that RETA/eRETA will give validation errors if there are mismatches between the fund year/type/etc. For more information about the bona fide need rule, appropriation law, and fund types, please see the RWA Policy Manual available on the policy and guidance page.
When do my funds expire? When will my RWA get closed?
That depends. Appropriations law determines how long funds are available. Once the authority to make new obligations expires, the funds usually remain available for five more years to manage existing obligations before they are canceled. For more information on appropriations law and how it dictates fund availability, please see the RWA Policy Manual available on the policy and guidance page.
