U.S. General Services Administration to host community meeting for the Land Port of Entry in Beebe Plain, Vermont

Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the project is part of President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda

BOSTON – The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) will host a public meeting in Derby, Vermont, to discuss the Beebe Plain Land Port of Entry project.

The public is invited to attend the meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 31, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. local time in the Select Board Room at the Derby Town Office (124 Main Street). The meeting will be conducted in an informal open house format, where project information will be discussed.

The open house format will encourage discussion and information sharing through opportunities for the public to speak one-on-one with GSA representatives. No formal presentation will be provided.

GSA’s goals for the Beebe Plain port include providing a long-lasting and durable facility which is sustainable and climate resilient, with low maintenance and operating costs.

The project will assist the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection carry out its mission at the international border crossing between Beebe Plain, Vermont, and Stanstead, Quebec, Canada. It will also improve economic, cultural and familial connections.

The intent of the meeting is to gather information from the community and identify shared goals between the federal government and the Town of Beebe Plain. During this meeting, GSA will introduce the project team and provide a project overview. Additionally, there will be an open discussion on the public’s experience with the current port, town and regional projects, and community and business interests.

The updated facility, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will strengthen supply chains, improve operational capabilities and facility infrastructure, spur economic growth, and bolster the country’s security.

The project will renovate the existing port with new state-of-the-art upgrades that will include the latest technologies and equipment to facilitate enhanced traffic management and inspection.

A contract for architectural and engineering services for this project was awarded in November.

This project is part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda in growing the American economy from the bottom up and middle-out – from rebuilding our Nation’s infrastructure, to creating a manufacturing and innovation boom powered by good-paying jobs, to building a clean-energy economy that will combat climate change and make our communities more resilient.
