Special Handling Requirements for Reporting Excess Firearms

Firearms are designated as property with Special Handling Requirements (41 CFR 102-40.75). GSA’s Center of Expertise (COE) for Firearms handles the disposal process and provides guidance to federal agencies. This training will provide details on how excess federal firearms are reported, who is eligible to receive them, and proper steps when destruction is required.

This free 1-hour virtual training will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 1 PM CT.

• This training is open to Federal employees and federal agency contractors since GSA only manages Federal firearms. 
  • Military personnel and DoD civilian employees should contact DLA Disposition Services for DoD firearm guidance. 
• Attendees will earn 1 Continuous Learning Point for their participation. 
• Upon registering, you will receive an email confirmation with a personal login link for joining the scheduled training. Please save this email to easily join the meeting at its scheduled time. 
• The training is facilitated in Zoom for Government. ZFG may not be compatible with everyone's system, so please test your connection early.
