The National Archives and Records Administration current facility in the Sand Point neighborhood of Seattle was constructed in 1946. and, due to its age and condition, does not suit the future needs of the agency. It was designed to store historical artifacts and thousands of square feet of paper, most of which was held temporarily then destroyed.
GSA and the National Archives are collaborating on a new vision for the archives. The future home of the National Archives in the Pacific Northwest is being designed to meet the needs of the agency’s digital future while providing a space for the community to engage with the records in the permanent collection.
Current Status
GSA is working with the National Archives to understand their needs and requirements for the new facility. Once complete, GSA plans to award a contract for design of the new facility in Summer 2026.
