GSA Announces Sale Of Former Kefauver Parking Garage Site In Nashville

Sale supports local economic development while fortifying federal real estate

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – Today, the U.S. General Services Administration announced the sale of the former Estes Kefauver Federal Building parking garage in downtown Nashville for $52,030,000 to the Convention Center Authority of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, GSA is aggressively moving to fortify the federal real estate portfolio by divesting of properties that no longer serve the needs of the federal government,” said GSA Administrator Edward C. Forst. “This $52 million sale delivers for taxpayers, while allowing Nashville to put this property to work in support of the local economy.”

The 1.327-acre former parking garage site, located at 811 McGavock Street, adjacent to Music City Center, was part of the larger Estes Kefauver Federal Building complex. The Convention Center Authority intends to integrate the site into the ongoing operations and future expansion of Music City Center, Nashville’s premier convention facility, which is a major driver of tourism, economic activity and job creation in the region. The acquisition will provide critical operational, logistical and staging capacity.

“This site gives Music City Center the flexibility it needs to support Nashville’s continued growth as a leading convention and tourism destination,” said Charles Starks, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Convention Center Authority. “Being adjacent to our current facility, it’s uniquely valuable for future expansion, and we appreciate GSA’s partnership in helping make this property available for development that will benefit the city for years to come.”

This sale follows the recent dispositions of the Liberty Loan Building and GSA Regional Office Building in Washington, D.C., and additional property sales in Minnesota, Texas, and California, saving taxpayers millions in delinquent maintenance. This reflects GSA’s broader effort to eliminate underutilized federal buildings, reduce long-term liabilities, and transition aging assets into productive private-sector use.

In addition to the sale of this property, GSA has listed other buildings for potential disposal to ensure taxpayers no longer pay for underutilized federal office space. GSA projects that the sale of these buildings will eliminate $5 billion in delinquent maintenance and annual operating costs.
