GSA Announces Street Closures for Demolition Work in Downtown Savannah

Removal and site transition work to begin July 6

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is advancing planned site improvements at Savannah’s federal campus.

Removal and site transition work will begin July 6, 2026, and is expected to take approximately six months. To support safe demolition activities, temporary traffic and parking adjustments will be required, including an approximately eight-week closure of State Street between Whitaker Street and Barnard Street. GSA will coordinate with the City of Savannah to manage traffic and parking impacts, maintain access to surrounding areas, and share traffic control plans in advance.

Following demolition, GSA will secure and stabilize the site with fencing, lighting, security cameras, grass, and landscaping to maintain campus cohesion and preserve flexibility for future federal needs.

Additional project updates, including traffic advisories and milestone information, will be provided as work progresses.
