GSA Auctions Grand Rapids Property, Will Save Taxpayers Millions

Sale offers prime development potential while divesting federal assets

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  Today, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced that the former Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan is now available for purchase. The listing marks a strategic step in ongoing efforts by GSA to consolidate the federal real estate portfolio, cut costs for American taxpayers, and enhance the space agencies need to achieve their missions.

“We are fortifying the federal real estate portfolio by divesting property that no longer serves its original purpose,” said GSA Administrator Edward C. Forst. “This sale will save taxpayers nearly $350,000 in annual operating costs and $27 million in cost avoidance.”

There are four buildings with a total gross building area of 48,120 square feet on the nearly 3.47 acre parcel. These include a two-story reserve center, a garage and storage building, as well as the former armory.

Those interested in bidding are strongly urged to visit the sale webpage and read the Invitation for Bids and additional information on auction details, including information on bid deposits, site visits and the starting bid amount.

GSA has listed several other buildings for potential disposal to ensure taxpayers no longer pay for underutilized federal office space. GSA projects that the sale of these buildings will eliminate $5 billion in delinquent maintenance and annual operating costs.
